The routes up to and on the plateau are dog-friendly, particularly since most of the plateau is covered in soft grass, which is easy on the paws. Because the plateau is populated with cows, dogs must remain on a leash, and they must wear a muzzle when traveling up in the gondola.
Comfy and beautifully fitted with all you’ll need, Pinja (pronounced “pee-nya”) Cottage is situated on a smaller plateau, tucked a short walk away from the main hiking trails, so you’ll enjoy peace, privacy and quiet with easy access to the action whenever you like. Pinja Cottage is situated just off the beaten path, beside a forest, a spectacular view to the Ljubljana valley below and the precipitous peaks of the Alps above. Pristine sunrises and sunsets viewed from a cozy cottage will provide unforgettable memoires. The cottage is a 10-minute walk from the gondola and a 30 minute walk from Zeleni Rob (Green Slope), which includes both a restaurant and a snack stand.
You’ll feel at home straight away, as the cottage is decorate and equipped with all the comforts you’ll need for your stay. 🙂
Walking through nature, spectacular views of the Kamnik-Savinj Alps, herdsmen’s huts and delicious local specialties. Starting in early June, herdsmen lead their cows to this mountain pasture. This means that summer allows visitors a chance for an unforgettable experience.
The gondola and chairlift begin operating, but if you’d like a longer hike, there are many paths up from the valley below to traverse on foot. Our agency offers organized trips such as A Little Snack with a Herdsman and Up the Mountain for a Snack.
A member of the Korca Group, Tanja Pirc, is competing in the popular Slovenian edition of MasterChef. She loves inviting her fellow chefs up to Velika Planina and this time she visited with Kristina Jakopic from Zirovnica. It wasn’t her first time on Velika Planina, but this was a visit she would always remember. This was especially the case because she cooked with Tanja without a time limit or stern judges staring at their every move. Watch the video (in Slovene) and you’ll get a good idea of how you, too, can have a blast on Velika Planina.
